  • Child Centred Play Therapy (CCPT) is different from usual modalities of talk therapy as it allows children to process and work through past and current struggles, experiences and traumas at the rate they are comfortable with, with whatever resources and tools feel most authentic to them. CCPT is always child led.

By providing a trauma-informed space and by responding with facilitative responses which validate the child throughout their play, children get the opportunity to truly express themselves.

Play therapy can be beneficial for children who are nonverbal and feeling overwhelmed during school/care/home hours; Play Therapy can be a great way for them to build safe relationships with another, whilst providing the neuroception of safety that can allow their brain to have a break from their daily challenges.

    1 hour session - $190

After hours or weekend session - TBA upon referral

  • Group Therapy is a fantastic opportunity for children to safely learn conflict resolution skills whilst strengthening their relationships and provides opportunity to create healthier ways to resolve conflict. CCPT within the group context provides the opportunity for children to role model positive communication, play and engagement in a safe and nurturing environment. This environment creates a safe place for children to develop an understanding of their internal feelings and provides the opportunity to feel the co regulation of a therapist.

Group Therapy can be beneficial for children who may find it difficult to communicate with peers or may not yet have the ability to work through conflict or negotiation in positive ways. Group therapy may be a positive way to begin the exploration and development of social skills if children haven’t had the opportunity for this.

Dysregulation in school, childcare or similar group environments may suggest that Group therapy is an appropriate and safe place to begin developing these skills.

Sibling or Group Therapy is often completed in conjunction with  individual therapy sessions; this allows the individual, the ability to freely and safely express their own internal world without fear of rejection or consequence and allow children to feel safer within the play room.

Group or sibling therapy - $190

  • CPRT (or Filial Therapy) is a 10 session program that teaches parents how to conduct play therapy sessions with their children at home.

Filial Therapy is an evidence-based family counselling approach that focuses on strengthening the attachment between caregiver and child. It teaches parents therapeutic skills to conduct 1:1 play sessions to support their child and alleviate family difficulties. Utilizing a child-centred, non-directive approach, Filial Therapy emphasizes the importance of parents as the 'co-therapist' in supporting your child. Working alongside you to support building stronger relationships, promoting healthy communication and a better understanding of your child's inner world.

CPRT is conducted with the parent/caregiver, either one-on-one with the therapist or in a small group with other parents. Participants are taught the basic skills and principals to conduct regular play therapy sessions at home. The child does not attend the sessions, but rather the parent/carer conducts play therapy sessions with the child in between CPRT sessions so that they can bring questions and feedback to the therapist what they are seeing as they learn.

Filial therapy - $190 a session x 12 sessions to complete the course

  • Prior to working with our families we book a consultation session to discuss the referral, discuss the goals for therapy, the specific needs of the child and to ensure we have a thorough understanding of the child and families history to date. We will discuss the child’s needs from everyone’s perspective and discuss the child’s life to date, all the challenges and all the beautiful moments too. We do this to determine the suitability of CCPT for yourself, family and more specifically, your little one. It’s important that we feel like play therapy will be a positive fit before commencing therapy.

Throughout your child’s journey we ensure that we provide feedback about your child's current play therapy journey, how they are going and any challenges we may be facing. This is a flexible service and could be via phone or in person and can be held monthly or every few weeks, depending on the needs of all.

Financially, we understand that extra sessions may be really challenging so we would negotiate how we manage this in our initial consultation session. We have ways we can be flexible here.

Additionally, we can provide these sessions alongside your child’s individual therapy if you wish. It may be preferential to provide both sessions regularly. If this felt like a positive plan for your family, we would utilise these sessions to discuss the challenges you are facing within the home as well as the glimmers of hope. We will focus on providing open communication to ensure that you are provided the tools and understanding regarding how to best support yourself and your little one.

If deemed necessary, we can provide the support and referral pathways to link you into further resources and support as required.

Creative connections also offers workshops for parents or carers on request.

  • At Creative Connections we are deeply committed to supporting professionals to better understand the needs of children who have endured the trauma of abuse, exploitation and neglect.

We do this by upskilling individual and group systems in practical and evidence-based ways that help them better understand our most vulnerable.

Training is a fantastic opportunity to ensure your service has a deep understanding of the neurobiology of children who have experienced trauma. Training provides participants with an understanding of the way in which trauma impacts a developing brain including the threat responses, and provides relatable examples of how this presents in a classroom or school environment.

We focus on discussions on attachment theory and the do's and don'ts for working with children who have experienced trauma. Collectively we can look at any adjustments that can be made to better support children who have been impacted by trauma.

The development of training can be provided for a vast range of organisations and involves an ever expanding list of topics. Please email me directly to discuss your organisations specific needs.

Training and development packages- quotes will be developed once content is understood.

  • Therapeutic Life Story Work enables children and young people who have experienced trauma and who are struggling with the pain of their past to reflect, develop compassion for themselves and move through these past experiences. It is a defined approach, designed to introduce the past as markers for the present. Once these are understood, the child is supported in considering how to move through to make significant changes, as a result of a far deeper understanding and awareness of how their history has been negatively impacting on their present.

  • Supervision and group reflection practice- coming soon

We can customise our supervision and reflective practice expectations to meet the needs of your team and deliver it to your workplace.

Reflective practice is the process of critically examining experiences and events from different perspectives and seeking to separate your own worldview and bias from this understanding.

Group reflective practice is a process of discussing, questioning, planning and decision making using the expertise of team members and other professionals.

There is no single way to conduct a group reflective practice. However, most models have some common elements:

    • facilitation by a practitioner with the group identifying and understanding what they want to achieve from the session

    • sharing dilemma’s or choosing one experience to work on per session

    • reflecting and discussing on current case challenges

    • feeling ‘stuck’, debriefing and planning sessions

Clinical supervisors are experienced professionals who are passionate about supporting others in addition to their own work. They help their supervisees improve what they do through structured discussion and learner-led reflection, promoting safe spaces, and encouraging professional development away from work-environment pressures.

Reflection-based clinical supervision is a practice in its own right, and we promote a generic vision of clinical supervision skills that are relationship-based and reflective. We are trained clinical supervision and undergo regular clinical supervision ourselves.
